The Covid pandemic has forced us all to modify certain aspects of our lives, especially when it comes to hygiene. In the beginning stages, when France was dealing with alcohol sanitizer shortages, many were advised to use the historical Marseille Soap as it kills 99.9% of bacteria including the Covid virus and does not dry out the skin. What we have found later is that when alcohol stocks were back to normal, people who weren’t already an avid user of the soap continued to use Marseille Soap for more reasons than sanitization.
Be on top of the game and learn how to take full advantage of your Rampal Latour Marseille Soap.

Toothpaste
If you have never heard about this before, you'll probably be shocked at how common this is in Marseille. Although the taste is something you might need to get used to, this method has been sworn by many, for consecutive generations.
How to: It can't get easier. Simply brush your slightly damp toothbrush on Marseille Soap until it lathers up. Brush as normal.
Tip: If you want to avoid the unfamiliar (but not overpowering) taste: add a pea sized amount of mint or other flavored toothpaste.
Shampoo
Say goodbye to shampoo filled with sulfates & parabens. Yes, these products do clean your hair, but they also unnecessarily strip the natural oils that keep your scalp healthy. Most of the time, sulfate shampoos are too drying, this especially applies if you tend to get oily hair. It can sound counterintuitive but by constantly dehydrating your scalp with sulfates or other chemicals, you’re ultimately telling your body to produce even more oil to compensate, thus giving you oily hair quickly. That’s why you are recommended not to shampoo daily. Switching to Marseille Soap is easy, almost effortless and might change your hair game altogether. Definitely try it out if hair loss, thinning or excessively oily hair are concerns of yours.
How to: Shampooing using Marseille Soap as you would solid shampoo is already great, but if you want to treat yourself, we've got a special recipe just for you (avoid this if you have really fine hair):
Melt 1 tablespoon of grated Marseille soap, 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of honey in a pot and stir until you have a homogeneous paste. While you wait, boil 100 ml of water. Slowly pour the water into the paste and gently incorporate to obtain a washing base in which you can incorporate 5 drops of essential oil and 5 drops of vegetable oil (of argan or jojoba ideally). Transfer into a shampoo bottle and keep for a maximum of 3 weeks. Adjust measurements according to your washing schedule.
Shaving Foam
You might be put off by Marseille Soap if you have oily skin since it is so gentle and might not get rid of the sebum. This can’t be further from the truth. In fact, due to its astringent properties, Marseille Soap is recommended for oily or acne-prone skin. Why we love using it as shaving foam: it lathers up nicely and prevents ingrown hairs.

How to: You have 2 options for this:
-If you already do your dishes with a brush, simply wet it and lather up Marseille Soap instead of pouring the dishwashing liquid onto your brush. Use as normal.
-If you prefer to have a liquid product, you can dissolve 20 g of grated Marseille Soap into 350 ml of hot water. Optional: Add 1 tsp of Baking Soda, 1 tsp White Vinegar, 4 drops of Essential Oil such as tea tree, lemon or lavender.
Stain Remover
At this point you might be skeptical. How can a product claiming to be so gentle to the skin, be so effective at removing stains & grease? Well…why not try it out for yourself.
How to: Rub a slightly damp corner of Marseille Soap onto your stain (this works best on "soft" fabric such as cotton or linen), then wash as normal and watch the stain disappear.
Insecticide
Marseille Soap has incredible ingredients that keep bugs & pests away.
How to: Dissolve 2 tbsp of grated Marseille Soap in 1 cup of hot water, let it cool down and transfer it to a spray bottle. Shake well. Spray your plants just as you would with insecticides, repeat on following days if necessary.
For Cramps & Rheumatism
How to: For nocturnal cramps: Place any form of Marseille Soap under your mattress cover, somewhere it won’t bother you.
To soothe cramps directly: Rub soap on the cramp area. You can lightly dampen your soap for an easier rub.
